Has Baz made things worse?

Reports that Twentieth Century Fox has forced Baz Luhrmann to change the ending of his highly-anticipated movie Australia are greatly exagerated, according to the man himself.

"You really think that on my films people tell me what to do? I don't think so," he says in "Baz Luhrmann rushes to finish film Australia" at News.com.au (12 Nov 2008).

"On my films I decide."

You'd expect him to then restore some mystery over the ending. Will Hugh Jackman's character die or not?

"There is a death at the end of this film, but it's a surprise how that works," he says.

Luhrmann says he scripted six possible endings and shot three, but then reveals he's decided not to use the one where Jackman's character dies.

Will Nicole Kidman's character suffer the same fate as Satine?

No doubt we'll probably read about it before we see it.
