Clive James has it right about the web

I miss Clive James on my television set.

I didn't realise how much until his appearance on Channel 9's Today program this morning.

Every word that man utters either has me in fits of laughter or nodding my head in agreement at the profound insight he has on almost any subject.

Today it was the web.

I didn't realise James was such a web fanatic, but a quick glance at his website www.clivejames.com means I know have a place to go when I'm feeling a bit James-less.

Why is he on the web? Well here's a snippet of his reasoning.

"The only real regret I have, I'm enjoying retirement and old age and all that stuff, I just wish I had another 30 years up my sleeve to see where all this goes because where the web goes next is going to be fascinating.

"It's enormous and I think it's up to anyone who can speak with reason and intelligence to get on the web because a lot of people are doing the opposite.

"It's a snake pit the web and we have to create oases of sanity I think."

I wish I'd said that.

I'd link to the video of his interview that's available on the Today program's website, but it took me long enough to play the video just to get the quotes above.

I've complained before about the ninemsn website which appears so clumsy and cluttered that it brings any browser I use to a grinding halt.
