America for sale

News on the net this week that the domain name america.com is to be auctioned off.

It's expected to fetch anything up to US$7-million if the owners can be believed.

America.com was appraised by independent evaluators like Duff & Phelps, Sedo and Afternic within a range from 3.5 to 7.3 million US dollars (files available upon request).

They cite previous record domain name sales of US$9,999,950 for fund.com and US$5,500,000 casino.com.

I wonder who'll be interested in the America domain name? Will US presidential hopefuls Clinton, McCain or Obama be bidding?

The domain name is due to be auctioned off between May 22 and 29 this year.

Someone in the Australian Government was smart.

australia.com takes you straight to the government's Tourism Australia website.

But what about australia.com.au? That one's still reserved by the Australian domain name guardians auDa.

Watch that space.
