Thoughts from inside the obscure box

I know what you're thinking – was that 88 people who died in Bali or was it 89?

Eagle eyes here have spotted the foundation of a future conspiracy theory.

A page on the Australian Federal Police website, on the Bali Bombings 2002, says 89 Australians died in the tragedy.

Every other website - including other parts of the AFP website - says it was 88 Australians who died in the bombing on October 12.

A quick phone call to the AFP revealed there had been an error. The correct and accepted figure was 88, and steps are now being taken to correct the website.

Now here's where the conspiracy theory may start. Someone somewhere is bound to think there's a cover up taking place.

Who was the mystery figure who died in the bombing, they will ask. Why is all reference to him being removed? Was he a secret agent? Or worse!

Grief. I hate conspiracy theories.

Never forget the "cock up" principle. Much more believable.

UPDATE - The AFP has now corrected the wepage.
