To verb
What is it about nouns that make some journalists want to turn them into verbs?
Heard on the TV the other day a story about the first mother and daughter team hoping "to summit" Everest!
The summit's the bit at the top. To get their they need "to climb" to reach the summit.
It's just another example of the appallingly sloppy habit of what I call "to verb".
Other examples heard include "our athletes are hoping to medal at the games". I hope the organisers are aware of the planned sabotage.
The number one offender though has to be "to farewell". Surely it's "to say farewell".
I think this may be an ongoing theme in this blog.
"Write me" your thoughts.
